Description of the methods/ approach and/or theories used Smart Schools are ecosystems of digital learning that showcase digital education offerings in practice. A smart school consists of three pillars: infrastructure, pedagogical concept/contents, and teacher training. 8. Purpose/Aim Smart School is a school initiative of the digital association Bitkom. With the Smart School initiative, they advocate contemporary education and drive the digital transformation at Germany's schools. Every year, the Smart Schools award is given to schools that are pioneers in digital education and are already showing what school can look like in the future. The initiative wants to empower children and young people to use digital technologies in a mature, critical, confident, and creative way. Smart schools have implemented teacher training as a basic pillar: a Smart School committee, participation in workshops with a focus on digitization and multiplication of knowledge within the school framework are essential and not on-top offers. Smart schools possess an appropriate infrastructure: Broadband, WLAN throughout the school building, Cloud services, Interactive whiteboards, Mobile devices, Intelligent school management and makerspace are implemented.
